Essential and extensive refurbishment work is set to begin next week on the footbridge at Woodbridge station. Greater Anglia is advising passengers who need to get between platforms 1 and 2 to allow extra time for their journeys as the diversion route will entail using the level crossing just north of the station.

The bridge is a twin span structure with one section enabling rail passengers to walk between platforms; this part of the footbridge will be closed from Monday 10 November until Wednesday 24 December.

The parallel and adjoining span allows access between the town and the quay; this part of the bridge will remain open for most of the project but will need to close on four weekends to accommodate specific construction activities. These closures will take place from 22:00 on Friday until 06:00 on Monday on the following dates:

14–17 November 2025
21–24 November 2025
28 November–1 December 2025
5–8 December 2025

The refurbishment will include strengthening the structural steelwork, full repainting, and the installation of new handrails with integrated lighting. Additional improvements include anti-climb lighting along the bridge deck, extended parapet upstands, and the replacement of existing timber decking and stair treads.

These essential upgrades will enhance the bridge’s safety, accessibility, and longevity, ensuring a more secure and welcoming environment for all station users.

Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure & Major Projects Director at Greater Anglia, said:

“Investing in upgrades across our network demonstrates Greater Anglia’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent facilities and a safe, comfortable experience for our customers.

“The refurbishment of Woodbridge station footbridge will significantly improve safety and enhance the station environment. We would like to thank our customers and neighbours for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place.”
