We hold FREE station-to-station Guided Walks throughout the year. Your dog is welcome too and they travel free on the train. There’s no need to book. Just show up.

Trimley Station circular via Orwell and Trimley Marshes

From Trimley station the route heads off in a southerly direction to some of the finest estuarine scenery in England. We’ll be walking beside the tidal reaches of the River Orwell with its lagoons and reed beds, along the perimeter of grazing meadows and through tree-lined footpaths.
A substantial section of the path is along the estuary and it’s quite exposed so please plan accordingly, especially if windy weather is expected.
The Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Trimley Marshes Reserve visitor centre is enroute; its normally open for a bit of respite; here there are toilets as well. We’ll confirm beforehand if they’ll be open during our walk.
The route is step-free; alongside the river there are long parallel paths (one higher and one lower) accessible via a ramp at either end; steps in between can be used to switch between paths.
Trains: 8:06 from Lowestoft – 9:58 from Ipswich – 10:28 from Felixstowe.
Lunch: Please bring a packed lunch; there aren’t any places for food along the way.Toilets: they’re located at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre. Elsewhere there is tree cover on about half of the walk.on.
Advice if you plan to take part in our Guided Walks
- Wear stout, comfortable footwear and have waterproofs if wet.
- Bring refreshments (especially drink), a snack, or lunch for brief stops along the way.
- Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead.
- Check train times before setting on the National Rail Enquiries website or mobile app, or call 03457 48 49 50.
- Be tick aware! Ticks can be encountered all year. Government advice on ticks is available here.
- No insurance cover is provided – all come at own risk.
