Next Free Guided Walks

Thursday 25 April – Wickham Market station to Framlingham – 7.5 miles – about 4 hours. Starts 10.10am (shorter 4.5 mile option ending at Parham).

We’re not able to offer this as a Saturday walk due to three consecutive weekends of engineering works.

From Wickham Market station we’ll head to Marlesford, past the old station and onto the old track bed toward Moat Hall. From there it’s a short walk to Parham Church for a mid-way break and then past old Parham Station (the tour of Parham Station has had to be postponed and will be rescheduled). Onto the old track bed again as we head towards Framlingham with a quick view of the former rail station, then onto Market Hill with its lovely cafes and pubs; Framlingham Castle is just up the street from where the walk will officially end.

Note: This walk is not step-free. There is an unavoidable long set of steps descending into Marlesford.

Food/Drink and Toilets: available right at the beginning at Station House Cafe at Wickham Market station, then 2 miles into the walk at Marlesford Farm Cafe and Shop. There are no other places along the route until Framlingham.

Lunch Break: this will be at Parham Churchyard.

Journey back to the rail station is at your leisure via the Katch bookable bus which can be booked in advance or on the day (at least an hour ahead of time). The service operates until 6.30pm giving plenty of time to explore Framlingham.

Katch picks up at green-flagged stops; there are several in Framlingham including Bridge Street, the old station and the castle. The number to book is 01728 635939 (office is open until 4.30pm that day). Katch itself operates until 6.30pm. The fare from Fram to the rail station is £3.95. Pay when you board using contactless card or cash. The shorter option is available traveling back from Parham (about 4 1/2 miles; fare £3.20). The Katch stop at Parham is a few yards from old Parham station at the corner on the B1116.

Dogs: they’re welcome, travel free on the train and on Katch too! When booking Katch please let them know you’ll be accompanied by your four-legged friend.

Future Walks

Wednesday 22 May – 10.35am – Trimley station to Felixstowe station via the Deben and Coast – 8 miles – with the Suffolk Walking Festival as part of Community Rail Week. Note: like our other walks, this walk is free, but unlike our other walks which are ‘no need to book – just show up,’ this walk must be booked in advance via the Suffolk Walking Festival website. NOTE: This walk is now fully booked but we are looking to see if we can add more spaces.
