Bicycles

Cycle carriage is free on all East Suffolk Lines trains and across the Greater Anglia network. This pertains to push bikes and electric bikes (E-bikes).

Cycle Stands at Stations

If you only use your bike to get to your departing station you can stow it free at cycle stands which are located at all stations. In addition dedicated cycle parks are located at two East Suffolk Lines stations.

Station Cycle Parks

  • Ipswich – the cycle park is next to the lift on platform 2.
  • Lowestoft – the cycle park is on the main concourse.

Cycle Carriage Policy

  • East Suffolk Lines and other local services across the Greater Anglia network – Bicycles are accepted on a first-come first-served basis; each local train has space for up to six bicycles. Look for the green stripe located at one end of the train. *There are restrictions on certain services Ipswich to Cambridge in the morning peak.*
  • Intercity trains Norwich – London – Free reservations are required. Each Intercity train has space for up to six bicycles. *There are some restrictions during the morning and afternoon peak on Intercity services.*

Folding Bikes

It’s not necessary to make reservations for folding bikes on any Greater Anglia service. There are no restrictions as they are treated like luggage but they must be in the folded position prior to boarding otherwise they are subject to the cycle carriage policy.

Electric Scooters (E-scooters)

E-scooters are not allowed on any Greater Anglia service.

INDUSTRIAL ACTION is taking taking place in early May. Mon 6/5, and Wed 7/5 though Sat 11/5 most services will run but there will be some cancellations. On Tuesday 7/5 there will be a full strike; NO services on the East Suffolk Lines or the other local/regional routes will operate that day. Mainline services to/from London will be reduced.
