Across the East Suffolk Lines and the Greater Anglia network an army of volunteers have adopted their local rail stations. The station adopters scheme gives the community a chance to put their stamp on their station reflecting the area it serves.
Many station adopters have planted flower tubs with some turning empty areas beside the platform into colourful gardens. The adopters at Lowestoft took on a theme that reflected the town’s maritime heritage. At Beccles the team planted tiered tubs with parsley, sage and rosemary along with tomatoes for anyone to pick. Extra seating was provided at Felixstowe when the adopters constructed planters with benches.
Funding
There’s no cost to the adopter. Funding for flowers and plants comes from Greater Anglia and the East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership and in some cases the Community Rail Network for larger schemes.
For more information on the scheme see the Greater Anglia website.
