Christmastime Guided Walk

A Christmastime walk through Suffolk Countryside will take place on Tuesday 28 December. The East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership will host the 3-hour, 5.5 mile circular walk from Melton station to Sutton Hoo traversing tidal marshes, oak woodland and sandy heaths

The walk departs at 11.29am (to coincide with the arrival of the 10:05 train from Lowestoft, 10.25 from Felixstowe and the 11:10 from Ipswich.).

The Partnership’s Chairman, Aaron Taffera, commented, “This is a free event to help people active, work off the Christmas excess and explore the county’s beautiful countryside with the help of a knowledgeable guide.

“With the added benefit of being able to get there and back on one of Greater Anglia’s brand new, more environmentally friendly trains, it means that people can discover our beautiful Suffolk countryside while reducing their carbon footprint and without the pollution of additional cars entering the county.”

There is no need to book in advance and dogs on leads are welcome.

Those taking part are advised to bring plenty of drink and some food/snacks.

A free book of self-guided walks from rail stations produced by the Community Rail Partnership is available from most public buildings in Suffolk such as tourist information centres and libraries. The online version is available here.

The booklet contains detailed maps and diagrams, duration of each walk, landmarks, details of the scenery along the way and places to stop for refreshments. All the walks are way-marked with the East Suffolk Line Walks logo.

People travelling by train to the event must wear a face covering on trains and at stations.
