Hourly Service between Ipswich and Saxmundham

The December timetable brings with it new services for the East Suffolk Line. From 12 December an hourly train service will run to Saxmundham; Lowestoft will see two additional morning trains to Ipswich.

Five additional trains each way will usher in the new hourly service to Saxmundham, Wickham Market, Melton, Woodbridge, Westerfield and Ipswich. From Lowestoft there will be two addtional trains in the monring (06.11 and 07.27) bringing to 5 the number of services to Ipswich between 05.27 and 9.08.

The new timetable will see the end of through trains to London, but connections to the capital at Ipswich will be improved to minimise waiting.

Andrew Chivers of train operator National Express East Anglia said “The introduction of an hourly frequency of service for our customers between Ipswich and Saxmundham and more peak-time trains from Lowestoft is the first step in delivering our long-held aspiration of providing hourly services on the East Suffolk line. We are working closely with Network Rail and Suffolk County Council to deliver the Beccles loop enhancement which will allow for a full hourly service from December 2012.”

INDUSTRIAL ACTION is taking taking place in early May. Mon 6/5, and Wed 7/5 though Sat 11/5 most services will run but there will be some cancellations. On Tuesday 7/5 there will be a full strike; NO services on the East Suffolk Lines or the other local/regional routes will operate that day. Mainline services to/from London will be reduced.
