New Ticket Office Set for Ipswich Station

A new ticket office is being constructed at Ipswich station as part of a package of improvements that will also see the installation of additional ticket machines.

The existing ticket office will close at midday Saturday 16 October with the new one opening 05.00 on Monday 18 October. During the change over ticket machines will be available as usual and extra staff will be on hand to help. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online and via mobile apps.

The £3 million scheme also includes a new shop, the relocation of toilets on platform 2, and the rewiring of the station.

Three years ago Greater Anglia invested £2 million to completely refurbish the existing foyer and ticket hall to create more space during busy periods. A large airport-style waiting room was also built which included more comfortable seating, plug points for charging electronic devices and space for more shops and retail outlets. Additional ticket machines were also installed.

At the same time the station forecourt was reconfigured in partnership with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council. Better walking routes were created along with an improved bus interchange facility and better segregation between taxis and drop off/meet and greet facilities.

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, said: “We’re pleased to be starting the continuing this phase of work at Ipswich station. There will be minimal impact to customers while the work takes place. Around 3.5 million people usually use the station every year, so we’re pleased to improve facilities for customers who are currently travelling and those who will travel again in the future.”
