Opposition Voiced to Station Relocation

A plan to relocate Lowestoft station 1200 feet (366 metres) west is being opposed by passengers as far away as Yorkshire, according to the East Suffolk Travellers’ Association. ESTA says objections have also been lodged by rail users from the Midlands. Network Rail, which own the station, have reaffirmed their opposition to the plan in a letter to ESTA, and rail operator ‘one’ say Lowestoft is its best situated rural-route station.

Last year 1st East, an urban regeneration company, prepared a report outlining plans to generate economic growth in the waterfront area of Lowestoft. Their preferred alternative calls for Lowestoft rail station to be moved and a shopping district built in its place.
