Network Rail will be returning to the A1152 Melton station level crossing in Suffolk this Friday 5 December to carry out essential improvement works as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable railway.

Following feedback from local stakeholders and residents about the level crossing surface at Melton, engineers have reviewed the site and identified areas where further improvements can be made, including adjustments to the newly installed drainage and road surface levels. These enhancements will help deliver a smoother and more durable crossing for the community.

To complete this additional work, the planned closure will be extended slightly. The road will close as planned on Friday 5 December at 8pm, but is now expected to reopen by 8am on Sunday 7 December instead of by 6pm on Saturday 6 December. We appreciate that this extension may cause inconvenience, particularly for local businesses, and we apologise for the short notice.

Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “The completion of the track works at Melton will bring more reliable journeys to the East Suffolk line. I understand though that this extended closure will be a further disruption to the road network and I’m sorry for this. By addressing these issues now, we can avoid future disruption and enable residents to have an improved road and railway as quickly as possible.”
