Families Enjoy ‘Crab-a-Train’ Summer Day Out at Woodbridge

More than 30 people took part in a summer’s day out by rail to have a go at crabbing in Woodbridge.

The ‘Crab-a-Train’ event put on by the East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership (CRP) offered a bargain rail fare from Ipswich. Upon arrival at Woodbridge families made their way to the Deben Yacht Club to get ready for a day of crabbing, picnics, and sightseeing.

As part of the event, each child was provided with a free bucket, reusable plastic-free line, and a simple guide on how to make their first catch.

Thalia Woodgate, East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership Officer, said:

“From the train journey with music to the welcoming atmosphere at the Yacht Club, it was an absolutely brilliant day. It was safe, affordable and enjoyable for everyone, and the fact that families are already planning to return next year says it all.”

The CRP worked with Greater Anglia to run the train at lower fares, with an adult return costing £5 and a child’s ticket at £3.50.

The aim of the scheme was to encourage families to enjoy days out by rail and explore fun destinations in their local area. It forms part of broader community initiatives as the region’s rail industry transitions to GBR Anglia whilst under public ownership.
