Dozens of families in Suffolk have taken part in a fun and educational Summer day out by train thanks to the East Suffolk Line Community Rail Partnership and Greater Anglia.

The Partnership worked with Greater Anglia to run a ‘Crab a Train’ event from Ipswich to Woodbridge at a bargain price to show people the delights of a day out by rail.

More than 50 people attended the sell-out event on 29 August.

Return tickets were just £5 for adults and £3 per child. The ticket included a free guide to crabbing, crab line and bucket, colouring book and ‘I rode the train’ sticker.

Thalia Rushmore, East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership Officer, said, “We were delighted that the event was so popular as this was the first one we have organised.

“Families had a great time trying their hands at crabbing from the jetty and enjoying all that lovely Woodbridge has to offer.

“I hope that it opened people’s eyes to the fun and convenience of a day out by train and will encourage them to try more days out by rail in the future.”

Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, said: “A day out by rail offers so much fun for families. It’s so easy, great fun for little ones and is a great way to avoid the traffic and hassle of finding parking.”

INDUSTRIAL ACTION is taking taking place in early May. Mon 6/5, and Wed 7/5 though Sat 11/5 most services will run but there will be some cancellations. On Tuesday 7/5 there will be a full strike; NO services on the East Suffolk Lines or the other local/regional routes will operate that day. Mainline services to/from London will be reduced.
