Brampton to Halesworth – The Wolfpack Walk

Saturday 31 January 2026 – 10.35am

5 miles – about 2.5 hours

From Brampton station we’ll head in a south-westerly direction through wooded areas and farmland toward the pub at Westhall.

The Racehorse Inn: At approximately 11:10 we’ll have a short stop at the pub in Westhall. From here it’s on to Belle Grove farm.

Part of the route follows the track of former RAF Halesworth at Holton, the WW2 airfield that was home to the U.S. fighter group famed as ‘Zemke’s Wolfpack’. Their memorials and museum are close to the ancient hedgerows you’ll find here.

Halesworth Airfield (Holton) Museum at Holton: the museum has kindly offered to open for us. We’ll have a stop here for some hot drinks, arriving between 12:15 and 12:45.

At the end of the walk at Halesworth there’s plenty of choice for food and drink at the town’s many cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Trains: 10.06 from Lowestoft – 9:16 from Ipswich – 8:28 from Felixstowe

Trains home from Halesworth: hourly at :40 to Ipswich and :09 to Lowestoft

Rail Tickets: if coming from the Lowestoft direction buy a ticket to Halesworth but alight at Brampton at 10.32.

Snack/Drink: Please bring a snack and drink for short stops along the way.

Toilets: each train has two toilets; toilets are also available at the Racehorse Inn at Westhall and at the Halesworth Airfield (Holton) Museum. There’s tree cover on the route too.
