The East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership are to host another of their popular guided walks on Saturday 29 October starting from Woodbridge station and ending at Wickham Market station in Campsea Ashe. The 7.25 mile ramble is set to explore the tranquility of the Deben Valley, visiting the magnificent fifteenth century St Mary’s Church in Ufford en route.

Participating in the walk is free of charge and open to the public with the ramble set to follow country footpaths, bridleways and tracks. Starting from Woodbridge station at 11am following the arrival of Greater Anglia train services which leave Ipswich at 10.17 and Lowestoft at 9.07.

Woodbridge based walk leader Maureen Colledge said: “We will discover the tranquil and historic countryside of the Deben valley, taking in the village of Ufford and its magnificent 15th century church. During the walk there will be an opportunity to stop for lunch at the White Lion with the walk ending at Wickham Market Station in Campsea Ashe.”

  • Along the route: Enjoy the tranquillity of the Deben valley starting from Woodbridge, stopping in Ufford for lunch and visiting the church with its impressive 15th century carved font cover, then using farmland footpaths and quiet roads to reach Wickham Market Station at Campsea Ashe. Essential items: Bring water and a snack. Money for lunchtime drink or meal in The White Lion, Ufford, or picnic nearby.
  • Finish time: Approx 15.40 –16.00 with trains to Ipswich at :07 minutes past the hour and to Lowestoft at :43 minutes past the hour.

  • Cost/Booking: The walk is free of charge and there is no need to book. Just show up on the day. No insurance cover is provided – all participate at own risk.
  • Equipment: Wear stout comfortable footwear and have waterproofs if wet.
  • Dogs: Well-behaved dogs welcome but must be on a lead.
