It was this time last year we told you about an ambitious plan by a small group of die hard volunteers determined to restore the station house at Wickham Market rail station (at Campsea Ashe).

 

The group has come a long way in the past 365 days and their plan to transform the station building for the benefit of the surrounding villages is a step closer to reality.

 

Station House Community Connections Ltd, a charitable Community Benefit Society, has been formed to allow the group to fund-raise, commence trading in order to sustain activities, and reinvest proceeds into the project. More than £131,000 toward a £500,000 goal has been raised which will ultimately see the station house fitted out with facilities which will enable it to become a hub for local residents and businesses.

 

Plans call for meeting rooms, a cafe, community room, rooms for hire, a book and map room, and WiFi access. Rail passengers will also benefit as the group is working with train operator Abellio Greater Anglia to integrate real time information screens, a ticket machine, and waiting room into the project.
